Shirley A. Hewitt was born in Denver, Colorado in 1933. She was selected as a child prodigy in art and was trained at Denver University. However, her life has been spent mostly in Oregon. She became a teacher and taught both in high school and college for 25 years and obtained a doctorate at USU. Shirley can’t remember a time when she did not work at drawing, lettering, or painting. She started to earnestly pursue oil painting in her early career. Her paintings sold well; she was blessed with much encouragement Her real passion has always been art and especially painting, and she feels that now she can devote her time and energy to doing what she really loves. She has enjoyed very much being a member of the NCAG and has greatly benefited from the critiques and insights of the fellow artists.
