Wendy was born and raised in England. Her first creative endeavor was the theatre, followed by journalism. An overwhelming love of the natural world is what compels Wendy to paint. Her subject matter is usually this beautiful state we live in. She works to keep her Oregon impressions loose, but still recognizable. Her cottages are presented as one might find them if visiting Britain today: Sometimes in need of paint, with an unruly garden or thatching in need of repair. They say “an Englishman’s home is his castle”, and nowhere is it more evident than in the lowly, much loved cottage. The cottages are more an expression of a happy childhood, with stability and order - that safe haven we all like to return to from time to time. While experimenting with various mediums, pastel became an early favorite. It’s portable, doesn’t dry out, and is somewhat forgiving and always exciting. She has a strong preference for soft pastel and sanded paper. More recently, she has returned to oils, experimenting with the Alla Prima (all in one sitting) style. She’s especially enjoying working with a painting knife. Though largely self-taught, she has taken workshops with Ben Konis, Charlotte Abernathy and Gary Michael. Her pastels and oils have received awards at Oregon shows. She lives and paints in the Stafford area around Oregon City, Oregon, and can be reached by phone at 503-638-5961 and by email.
