Michael Kirshner
I cannot escape the immediacy of nature. It is visceral. I feel the pull of the earth in my body. My creative energies are ignited when I experience the out of doors.  I respond with emotion. My art is a direct response to what moves me – a profoundly personal utterance. Painting for me is a way of transforming an intense emotion into a visual manifestation that has roots in eternity. I paint landscapes because I feel and put myself in these places. I use pastels because I feel that I am holding the earth in my hand. I am connecting to Mother Nature both visually and viscerally. Whether biking on a country lane, hiking along a mountain creek, strolling in a wooden glen, or fly fishing in a remote stream, I am enthralled by a presence, manifest through light, in shadows, and reflections – contrasts between the solid and the ephemeral.  IT is the interplay between what one can see and what one senses in nature that inspires me. I draw on these inspirations on site or in the studio to create. I welcome viewers to enter my personal space and experience a moment when Mother Nature has touched me.
