Vera West
Born in South Carolina, Vera arrived in Oregon in 1964, with a wonderful husband in tow and bright hopes for their future. She settled in Milwaukie to raise her family and began a job in medical services, with no idea she would eventually become an artist. Shortly after retiring from her medical career, Vera took her first art class with fellow Milwaukie resident watercolorist Pat Tasakos.  As time went on, she took more classes in this medium, enjoying her emerging artwork.  Currently, she is exploring acrylics, and also works in colored pencil, pen and ink and pastels. To her surprise, with her first show entry, she was awarded First Place in the 2001 NCAG Fine Art Show for, “Mae West,” a pencil drawing of her Himalayan cat.
